What you can expect with craniosacral therapy?

CST Overview

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of your body system called the craniosacral system.  This system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  Using a soft touch, generally no greater than 5 grams (the weight of a nickel) practitioners such as myself, release restrictions in the craniosacral system, which have been shown to improve the functioning of the systems of the body such as the central nervous, digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Because of its positive effect on so many body functions, Craniosacral therapy is practiced by a wide variety of healthcare professionals.

Somatic Conditions

CST has been shown to help with the physical components related to somatic conditions such as Post traumatic Stress, depression and anxiety.

Preventative Health

By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and has been shown to be beneficial for people seeking help with a wide range of healthcare challenges and symptoms.

Infants and Newborns

Craniosacral therapy has a host of benefits for newborns who suffer head trauma during delivery. CST therapy helps to normalize the baby's central nervous system. Infants with head trauma often have issues with poor spinal fluid circulation. This type of massage is believed to help regulate the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and remove blockages, which promotes healing. The method of massage is thought to be both safe and effective for babies.

What to Expect

Craniosacral therapy is performed on a person fully clothed.  Using a light touch - generally no more than the weight of a nickel - the practitioner monitors the rhythm of the Craniosacral system to detect potential restrictions and imbalances.  The therapist then uses delicate manual techniques to release those problems areas and relieve undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord.  The session can last from about 15 minutes to more than an hour and it can be alone or in conjunction with other therapeutic procedures.
